FOUR FOOTSTEPS IN THE ANCIENT SUBURB
Among churches, paintings and an ancient Byzantine mosaic Asciano offers many you sprout to the visitor

To arrive to Asciano, departing from Siena, the enchanting street is crossed Lauretana a road rich in green and suggestive sceneries. In proximity of the country the bridge of the Politeness meets him, made immediately to reconstruct after the second world war following him/it medieval scheme. Old this passage, he reaches the borders of the historical center, that it unties him along a ring set between the basilica of Sant'Agata and the door senese.
We begin the itinerary from street Cassioli. Made few meters we cross on the right plaza of the Wheat, the medieval heart of the suburb. The plaza has to the center a beautiful fifteenth-century fountain, work of Anthony of Paul Ghini, and, the building of the Podestà, decorated after all, by numerous heraldic coats of arms. Taking, then, street Bartolenga, diverts at the street Magi: here a rare example of furnace can be admired for vases.
We return therefore to climb along the street Bartolenga, up to perceive the ancient building Tolomei. A little anymore before it raises him the Collegiate one of Sant'Agata. The basilica, referable to the phase of transition among Romanesque and Gothic, it has a beautiful bell tower merlato and an original octagonal dome. To his/her inside they detach, instead, a great representing fresco the Madonna in throne, attributed to Girolamo of the Jolly good time the Deposed of cross of the Sodoma and a wooden crucifix of the XV century. Around the building, besides, the rests of the ancient boundaries towns can be observed. From the square a magnificent panorama is also admired on the surrounding hills. We return on our footsteps and let's start us long course Matteotti: on the right we perceive the church of St. Bernardino, a small building in Gothic style. Let's overcome her/it and we take, immediately to the right, street Mazzini. We sprout so in front of the museum Cassioli, devoted ascianese of the XIX to the painter century Amos Cassioli. We are ready to leave the medieval suburb of Asciano, without forgetting a breve it covers to the near church of Camparboli, in the immediate proximities of the door senese.
