THE WATER RESOURCES
The water resources of Corsica are extremely remarkable, not comparable to those of the other islands of the Mediterranean, above all in near Sardinia.
The precipitations
- Although the days of rains during the year are not very numerous (95 days to Ajaccio), on the island they fall well 900 mms of water, a superior annual average to that of the South of France. It rains more and East that to West, more to the inside that on the coasts, more to North that to South. Some footsteps (Vizzavona, Vergio) are regularly innevati in winter and you/he/she can happen that others are closed. These abundant precipitations, however, are distributed during the year in enough uneven way. The regime pluviometrico type Mediterranean, prevailing almost wherever, it imposes a long period of drought in the summer, with danger of serious damages to the agriculture. To try to obviate lakes of obstruction to this drawback I/you/they have been created what that of Tolla on the river Prunelli, the hospital, Calacuccia or Codole in the Balagna.
Water's courses
- All the rivers and the streams of the zones western and oriental they have irregular levels: in thin from June in October, full of October water to April, when they become impetuous (this justifies the course and the height of some bridges), clear to West, muddy to East. During their run, of difficulty result to the sea, transports notable masses of deposits; this is the motive for which the insabbiamento of the mouths, above all on the oriental coast, but also in the gulves of the western shore, you/he/she has favored once the development of the malaria. Apart the rivers, the water net of the island is composed of numerous courses of water fed by the rains whose read, during the dry season they become gravelly, but to the burst of storms you/they can swell dangerously, therefore: attention to the excursions in their proximities.
The thermal waters
- Corsica possesses a thermal wealth little note today, above all to Cheat us, Speluncato and Pietrapola, but exploited since the times of the Romans. In more recent epoch, the same Gustave Flaubert, on suggestion of the medical father, it brought him in the Corsica to reinvigorate his/her own health completing in such occasion the turn of the thermal stations. Today Corsica has a group of small thermal stations destined above all to the therapy of dermatosi, rheumatisms and affections to the respiratory streets. The most known thermal baths are those of Cheat us, Flushes, Guagno-les-Bains, Guitera, Pietrapola and Orezza. In the island you/they are bottled besides and you commercialize the waters of some mineral sources, of which the more note is the water of Orezza, fizzy and strongly mineralized.
